The Hollywood Theatre’s bimonthly series QUEER HORROR takes a trip to summer camp for THE FINAL GIRLS! Sponsored by Royale Brewing Co and Finger Bang, this summertime screening opens with a preshow tribute to the greatest final girls of all time hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi!
Directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson and written by Joshua John Miller and his husband M.A. Fortin, 2015’s THE FINAL GIRLS takes recently-orphaned Max (Taissa Farmiga) to a memorial screening of the ‘80s camp slasher film CAMP BLOODBATH starring her late actress mother (Malin Akerman). After a freak accident in the theater, Max and her friends find themselves trapped inside the movie itself, leaving Max to team up with her mother’s cinematic doppelganger against an omnipotent ‘80s slasher. Also starring Alia Shawkat and Adam Devine, THE FINAL GIRLS is like CABIN IN THE WOODS meets THE LAST ACTION HERO, but as a harrowing, hilarious, and heart-wrenching homage to the horror genre and the women who lead it.

ABOUT QUEER HORROR:
QUEER HORROR is a bimonthly festival of genre works by queer artists, performers, and filmmakers questioning horror’s relation to queerness and what it means to identify with the monster. Maybe it’s the fact that queer people are so often relegated to shadows of otherness that the horror genre is more immediately relatable for us. We grew up with boogeymen. We’ve lived with boogeymen. Goblins and ghosts are a welcome escape from real-life monstrosities.
From the work of James Whale and John Waters to Patricia Highsmith and Clive Barker, horror has deeply impacted queer culture and sensibilities and QUEER HORROR asks why. QUEER HORROR is programmed and hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi and her human avatar Anthony Hudson, with artwork by resident artist Jason Edward Davis.
